Submit your Six-Word Olympics Prediction

Posted on July 31, 2008. Filed under: Summer Olympics | Tags: , , |

After seven years of waiting, the Beijing Olympics start in just seven days!
With that in mind, let’s make some predictions. You’re welcome to submit a conventional prediction, but why don’t we mix things up.
Have you ever heard of a six-word memoir? If not, the story goes like this. Someone once suggested to Ernest Hemingway that [...]

As pollution lingers, Beijing rolls out emergency plan

Posted on July 31, 2008. Filed under: Summer Olympics | Tags: , , , , |

If you compare taking a nice deep breath to drinking water, a tall glass of Beijing three weeks ago was cloudy and warm. The pollution was that bad. For the first two days a grey haze clogged the sky making the light flat and dull.
Then during the middle of the month, the skies cleared. The [...]

Think you know pressure? Meet China’s Liu Xiang

Posted on July 30, 2008. Filed under: Summer Olympics | Tags: , , , , |

The moment Liu Xiang kneels down to take his mark before the start of the 110-meter hurdles next month, at least one-sixth of the world’s population will likely grab the person next to them, collectively hold their breath or crawl closer to the television.

Alby’s Blog: Memories Of Hines Ward

Posted on July 29, 2008. Filed under: Steelers Training Camp |

People often ask me how the Steelers are looking at practice. The Steelers morning workout began with a walkthrough in the St. Vincent Gymnasium, an hour later, [...]

Chinese is possible

“If you dig down far enough…” they said.
I guess it’s not surprising I grew up thinking Chinese would be impossible.
This time last year, just hearing the word ‘Chinese’ reminded me of the uphill language battle that lie ahead. A few months of backpacking in Central America turned me into a basic Spanish speaker, but Mandarin [...]

When [...]
